La, and a Star in the family

December 10th, 2004 | Category: firefly/serenity

So many of you would know the news, now several weeks old, about Firefly. It’s news that some would see as bad news, and others as immensely positive – the release of Serenity, the long (long, LONG) awaited movie sequel to the much mourned Firefly, has been pushed back to September of next year.

You all know that I had plans to go to LA for the premiere of Serenity next April, but what I had not mentioned was that this trip would coincide with the local production of the Sound of Music. I’d had to make a choice, and Whedon won over Cocking (the director/producer of our local production company). But now! Now, I can have my cake and eat it too.

Or at least, I would eat it if I was eating cake these days. I suppose it’s more like, I can have my rice cake and eat it too.

I can do the show AND got to the opening in LA! This has been one of those days when everything dovetails together, you know? At least, everything dovetails together for my private life. I’d be happier if I had more work to do at work!

So. Dovetail #1: Firefly (having cake) in September, Sound of Music (eating it too) in April.

Dovetail #2: I’m on a Gym High. I woke up this morning, and felt the least stiff since I got back from China. Loving that Body Pump, and Body Balance tonight. However, it will be another significant dovetail on the day that I can get through one particularly grueling track (the lunges) at Body Pump without stopping. I can’t wait to get home and get to the gym! How weird is that?!

So my other news is: my big brother, one of my heroes, has nabbed himself a job working on Good Morning Australia, playing violin in the band. I’m green with envy, but practically bursting at the seams with pride for him, too. I didn’t get to see the show when it was on a few days ago (you know, this whole 8.30 to 5.30 gig can be such a drag sometimes), but I heard that the camera sat on him for two or three seconds, not once but THREE times! He’s a handsome lad, so I guess they decided that he was more pretty to have onscreen than some of the others in the band (but I’m sure that they’re all very handsome too. Just not as cute as my big brother!)

So there you go, we have a TV star in the family. Now all I have to do is marry Jerry O’Connell, and we’ll have TWO!
