A stroll around the campus

OK, so a lot has happened in the last couple of months, and things don’t show too much sign of getting better, and I won’t comment on it. Mainly because there are so many widely disparate views, and I will not add fuel to the fire.

So instead, this post will consist of the normality of this campus. We got a new camera last year, it stopped working within 8 hours of us buying it, and has just returned from the camera company. Very many, many thanks to Red, Marlene and Karen who cajoled, organised and facilitated its repair and return!

This is the sorts of shots this camera can easily take:
Background fuzzy:

etc. But enough techno stuff, here is The Start (doesn’t mean you will necessarily get the rest) of Tour of the Campus:
This is our house. It is the end house of a row of four. There are three blocks of four in our row. They are made of limestone blocks.

The dog in front of the fireplace. It gets cold enough to have a fire during winter evenings.

The lion in the bushes on the back verandah. Red gave us this handsome fellow some Christmases ago , and it took some finding!

The road outside our house. Smooth tarmac, tall trees,

The football field, and the two water towers (one high one, one low, white and flat).

This looks like a path, but it is really a water pipe conduit. The hostel building is on the left, the central kitchens straight ahead, the playgound fence on the right.

Many ILRI folk are very sociable: I met JJ (few people can pronounce his real name)on my stroll, on his way to dinner with someone.

Another row of houses, and the children’s’ playground in front.

The village on the other side of the security fence ….

The Generator House: the black ‘hutch’ is the diesel engine exhaust outlet.

The Ngong hills in the distance mark the edge of the rift valley.

Susan, John and Jack enjoy a glass of wine as they watch the sunset, and offer me one too.

We sit and watch the sun go down. Conversation and a sunset …. wonderful!

And then it was dark and the light is not right for taking photos. And I am only a thrid of the way around the campus.
