NotQuiteRight Animals

This week end’s escape - the Nairobi National Park, specifically the pens of animals (they called the area a ’safari walk’) requiring ’special’ treatment: I don’t know what they were all there for, but some needed vet attention, and some were just fit to be re-released ….

Last week, at Tsavo, I was woken up by what I thought was a baby hippo outside our window (no, it wasn’t Koffi Annan, he arrived a couple of days after we left). I was probably mistaken, it was more likely a pygmy hippo, and here is one undergoing rehab:

I don’t think the rehab was going to be successful - it was very human orientated - but look at those teeth (and the smiley (?) face …)

Coldn’t see anything wrong with these guys but maybe they were waiting to be discharged?:

Sometimes the animals were difficult to find: this turned out not to be a big kitty: it was a log.

But we walked past this one, and Delia only spotted it later: Looks like a sore eyed kitty?

And a unicorn?

This is an African water buffalo. They all have a reputation of being extremely grouchy (and totally non domesticate-able), and will stand behind a bush waiting for people to go past so they can do them in. Armed rangers accompany you in buffalo areas. I don’t know why these ones were getting TLC. But they are rather magnificent.

Ditto these guys.

We thought they were made of concrete, but then a malevolent eye opened to check us out …

Albino zebras - probably there as curiosities?

And a couple of giraffe photos from the main park because I can’t help it (note extra ‘horn’ in the middle of the forehead)

And a photo of a very oppulent house (probably owned by some pollie using ill-gotten gains we decided!) just outside the park.

Thanks, Delia, Ash, Marta, Miika and Ilma, a great day!
And sorry, Charlotte, keeper of this blog site, I PROMISE to cut down on my photos. Sometime. Really ;-)

No! Don’t stop with the photos! My bandwidth can take it! But for the older entries, let me teach you how to put a “break” in each entry, so that people don’t have to load every photo for the past month when they’re looking at the most recent entry.

    :)
